The TwinShoppe Story
Making life easier two babies at a time.
In 2003 we found out we were expecting…twins. As many of you probably know all too well, this information causes a very strange reaction. All at once I was excited, scared, disappointed, scared, happy, sad and did I mention, scared? Terrified really.
After it sank in and I accepted that my pregnancy, and my life would not be at all as I had imagined, practicality set in and I started researching baby items that a mother with twins would need. Back when one baby seemed like it would be a lot of work, I had picked out a sharp looking stroller system with all the bells and whistles. I also picked out an amazing sleigh crib. Both of these items were now scratched. I could neither fit, nor afford two big sleigh cribs. And I would now need a double stroller. What else would I need for twins? Would I need two of everything?
At first it seemed like I found an abundance of information on the Internet, in books and through the other parents of twins that I talked to. After a while I realized that there wasn’t really that much information out there. Each store, even the big ones, only had a few double stroller selections. To really see a selection required driving to many stores and visiting many different web sites. I found this repeated whenever I was looking for anything specific for the kids. Birth announcements, baby books, coordinated clothes etc…
Now that my two little ones are twelve months old, I decided to take the first step in my plan to make a central location on the web to find a selection of items for twins, triplets and other multiples. I don’t think we’ll ever compete with the big on-line stores, but I do hope to have suggestions and ideas to help other mothers through the process of equipping themselves for their twins. I want to gather advice from other mothers, or link to those collections of advice already out there. If I can’t actually carry an item, I want to be able to point you to it. I want to make it easier to find the items that will make life easier.
If that is my goal, you might wonder why this site is all gifts and no gear? I hope you weren’t too disappointed when you got here. We have to start somewhere, and as it so happens, the easiest way to start is by carrying gifts. As we become more established we will be able to start carrying a wider selection of items. Stay tuned for strollers, diaper bags, nursing pillows, birth announcements and more.
You can help me reach this goal. If you have any suggestions about items that parents or caretakers of multiples should have or at least know about, please share them with me. If you include a story or anecdote about how that item helped you or why you selected it, I’d like to include that in the content of this site as well. I don’t just want to pile up the items for everyone to sort through; I want to put some context around them to help make the choices a little easier.
Thank you for visiting.
Best of luck with everything,
Heather Haynes
